have you seen the growing collection of designer lines specifically for urban outifitters? i first spied the cutest green dress from hawk by geren ford, but now they have added charlotte ronson, steven alan, and paul & joe sister. i am such a huge fan of the collaborations that bring the higher end designers to the public and this project is becoming one of my favorites. the designers they pick do a incredibly good job of keeping true to their audience and the prices are a bit higher than normal uo fair, but still pretty reasonable.

i am so sorry for not posting art class on monday, and then again on tuesday. it just wasn't in the cards. i am going to make up for it right now though. this week i have picked thumbtack press and they are just awesome. their claim to fame? affordable prints ("we're cheap without looking it") and "starving artists." you must go, i know there is some whitespace on your walls just begging for a splash of color.

i am taking a slight departure from the norm on this one, but i just couldn't help myself. threadless is one of those amazing companies that just makes you smile. their parent corporation, skinny corp., has a pretty rockin' website, which i would definitely recommend checking out, and then a couple of their sister companies are just as cool but not as well known. for example naked & angry (MAS an i used one of their wallpaper designs for our first wallpaper project).

anyway ... i don't think it gets more independent than allowing an onslaught of designers and non-designers alike submit ideas for new t-shirts and then have them printed up. it is just an excellent way to build a community around design, and that is actually what they have done. so head on over to threadless and stay a while.

- supermarket makes it easy to buy great design -

so they say over at supermarket, and i absolutely have to agree with them. with a notcot vibe and an etsy-like theme this is one of those e-commerce sites that you really shouldn't miss.

created by a group out of brooklyn, known as supercorp, supermarket is a way to give designers an outlet for their creative goodies in a simply designed and easy to navigate webspace. this is a curated collection of items so you do have to go through an application process of sorts if you would like to sell on supermarket, but this process of picking work gives shoppers a nice edited version of items that might otherwise go unnoticed on a site like etsy.

i love many a handmade item, and i don't think that is much of a surprise to anyone reading right now. i also love the resources that have been popping up all over the internet to promote new artists.

so i believe a new project is in order. i will call it - art class - and i hope everyone will attend. there will never be homework but suggestions or links are always appreciated. it will be a weekly post, occuring every monday, highlighting a different venue that works tirelessly to give us something wonderful to put on our walls - or wherever we please.
