plants.

my mission this week, house plants.   we're decidedly bare, well if you don't include the various cacti in the kitchen, which are nice, but also secluded in the kitchen.

any favorite hard to kill varieties out there that are not succulents?  i used to be a pro with things such as ferns, but that was before i had an animal and literally treated all house plants as pets ... we're talking names, travel itineraries ...yeah ... i was young, they were important to me.  but since then i've been murdering everything that has a light/watering preference and now i'm scared of being a serial killer.

although, i think this could all be fixed if i just PAID ATTENTION to them?

  1. I have no clue what succulents are but I have yet to kill my peace lily and african mask after 5 years.

  2. i love love love my xerographica. they're kind of pricey at around $25, but of my 10 we bought for our wedding we've gotten 6 babies & 1 teenager- by basically ignoring them. they last around 18 years, so it will be fun to tend to their great grandchildren when we're old. you can put them in a concave bowl with holes or hang them.

  3. I like African violets and cyclamen. We also have two bonsais, which are supposed to be outdoor plants but will deal if you leave them in a sunny spot (windowsills, in our case).

  5. My husband (Glasshaus Project) has a little more than a green thumb, so our place is looking more and more jungle-like every day. That being said, the heartiest and most resilient plants we have are a variety of philodendron (typical office plant). It's a philodendron hederaceum and it is a pretty shade of dark green with a pink underside. We found ours at home depot. Happy hunting!

  7. If you aren't one who doesn't have a green thumb then silk plants could be for you. There are ones that look very real.

  8. I've had the same problem with plants. I used to be SO good with them, had all my own herbs, vegetables, and decorative ones. Now I am the worst. they all die, what happened? i recommend a christmas cactus other than of course succulents. they withstand all.
